Gunite Pools

Though in-ground pools are most commonly made with concrete and aggregate plaster mixtures, there's another, stronger material you might not know about: gunite. Gunite pools are concrete-based pools that are constructed by shooting dry material out of a hose nozzle then adding a liquid to it as it comes out. Shotcrete, how most concrete pools are made, involves shooting already wet material out of a hose.
Gunite pools are strong, long-lasting, and available in custom shapes, sizes, and features. They also can accept a variety of pool finishes such as tile, plaster, paint or marble dust to make your pool truly unique.
Here's what you should know about gunite pools, including pros and cons, how gunite pools are made, and how gunite compares to other common pool materials.
What is gunite?
Gunite is the dry mix form of concrete and only contains fine particles. Gunite sprays out a nozzle dry, and then water is added at the end of a hose controlled by a nozzle man. Gunite is made by first loading a hopper with dry concrete mix. Then the dry mix is shot through a hose via air pressure. At the end of the hose, water is introduced to the mix by a nozzle man. The nozzle man also controls the amount of water going into the mix.
The main difference between gunite and concrete is that concrete will have bigger aggregate in its mix, which cannot be in gunite because it would be too big to be shot out of a hose
